But wait. Is it even possible to reheat empanadas? After all it’s a delicate deep-fried meat pillow. What if we ruin it?

Sure. It’s possible you could overheat it in the microwave and turn it into rubber or burn it in a skillet with oil.

But that doesn’t have to be your story.

We can absolutely reheat empanadas, and we can bring them back to their original deliciousness.

The truth is you can reheat any food that has been refrigerated or frozen. It’s just a matter of using the right method with the right appliance.

For example, foods that have been baked or grilled are often best reheated in the oven or back on the grill, and foods that have been deep fried or breaded are usually best reheated in the air fryer or in the oven.

For empanadas, our best bet is probably going to be using the air fryer, but let’s run through each appliance to see what kind of results we can get.

Now, before we get into how to reheat empanadas, let’s cover the basics of food safety.

We don’t want anyone getting sick trying to enjoy their leftovers.

Basic food guidelines tell us to be sure we heat all leftovers to an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit. For empanadas, that can be tough to do, which is why it is important you do your own research to cover all your bases.

How to Reheat Empanadas in the Oven

Reheating empanadas in the oven is an efficient way to get your treats back on your plate and ready to munch.

  1. Preheat your oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Grease a baking sheet and place the empanadas on the sheet, spaced apart.
  3. Heat the empanadas for about 10 minutes to get them fully warmed. If necessary, you can heat for another 2-3 minutes.
  4. Serve with your favorite sides or sauces and enjoy!

How to Reheat Empanadas in the Microwave

Reheating empanadas in the microwave is not my favorite approach. You run the risk of drying out the dough and turning it either hard or rubbery.

That said, if you must, you must. Just be cautious and take it slow.

  1. Place the empanadas on a microwave-safe plate and turn the microwave to 50% power.
  2. Heat the empanadas for 30 seconds at a time, flipping them over each time, until they are warmed through.
  3. Serve with your favorite sauces and enjoy!

How to Reheat Empanadas in an Air Fryer

Easily the best way to return this dish to its original state is by reheating empanadas in an air fryer.

This approach will get the inside ingredients hot and steamy and the outside crust hot and crispy. Perfect.

  1. Set your air fryer to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Place the empanadas strategically in the air fryer basket, spaced out so they are not touching and air can circulate fully around each empanada.
  3. Heat for 3-4 minutes then check them.
  4. If necessary, you can return the empanadas to the air fryer for another minute or two.
  5. Serve with your favorite sauces and enjoy!

How to Reheat Empanadas on a Grill

Look, the grill is not always going to be your go-to appliance for reheating leftovers, and with empanadas, the grill is not going to be your first thought.

Nor should it be.

But if you are outside with your grill fired up and thinking about those leftover empanadas, you can totally make use of this outdoor appliance.

  1. Heat the grill to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Wrap the empanadas individually in aluminum foil.
  3. Place the empanadas over indirect heat and close the lid.
  4. Allow them to warm for 5-10 minutes or until they are heated through.
  5. Serve with your favorite sauces and enjoy!

If the only appliance you have to work with right now is a toaster oven, fear not. The toaster oven can make magic happen in most circumstances.

  1. Heat the toaster oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit.

  3. Heat the empanadas for 10 minutes or until they are warmed through.

How to Reheat Empanadas in a Pan on the Stove

Finally, you can work with a pan on the stove, but I would not recommend deep frying these empanadas again as you may end up with crust that is too hard and an interior that is still not heated through.

  1. Heat a cast iron skillet over medium heat and place a thin layer of olive oil in the bottom of the pan.
  2. Place the empanadas, spaced out, in the pan, and flip them over and around the pan until the they are heated on the outside and warmed through.
  3. Serve with your favorite sides and sauces and enjoy!
