And now, all grown up, we get to enjoy them in pubs and diners, served with burgers and chicken sandwiches.

But how do we reheat them, so they are just as good as the first time, crunchy on the outside and hot and moist on the inside?

Can You Reheat Tater Tots

Is it even possible to reheat tater tots?

Of course, it’s possible!

Tater tots are just potatoes, shredded and bunched into “tot” form, then deep-fried so they’re crispy on the outside and toasty warm on the inside.

Potatoes are relatively easy to heat up in the first place. The key is always to ensure you get them soft enough so that they aren’t hard when you bite into them. Beyond that, it is really difficult to ruin potatoes, especially fried potatoes.

And tater tots are just small bits of potato, which makes them simple both to heat and reheat. It just takes a bit of finesse.

The nice thing is you don’t even have to heat them in the first place. You just have to reheat them.

Easy peasy!

The truth is you can reheat pretty much any food that has been refrigerated or frozen. It’s just a matter of using the right method with the right appliance.

For example, foods that have been breaded or fried are typically best reheated in an air fryer or in the oven. Foods that have been baked or grilled are usually best reheated back in the oven or back on the grill.

With tater tots, we are probably going to be best off with the air fryer, but let’s run through each appliance just to be sure.

Before we get into how to heat tater tots, we should first figure out if it’s even safe. After all, we have to address the possibility of foodborne illnesses and safe food handling.

Obviously, with any potato dish, we are probably safe. There is no dairy, no meat, no fish, or anything to worry about contaminating your plate or your body.

To be safe, the general guidelines say we should reheat leftovers to an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit.

But of course, you should always do your own research. To get you started on that research, check out this article on reheating leftovers by Healthline

Okay, I’m not going to tell you to run outside and fire up the grill just to heat up your tater tots.

That would just be silly.

  1. Wrap your tater tots in aluminum foil and roll the ends up tightly then poke holes in the foil so you don’t steam your tots.
  2. Preheat the grill to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  3. Place the tots on the grill and close the lid.
  4. Heat for 15-20 minutes.
  5. Serve and enjoy!
