Can I Reheat McDonald’s Fries? Tips on Which Method Is Best

I love treating myself to McDonald’s fries sometimes because I find them tasting a million times better than most other fries – WHEN THEY ARE HOT! Something about the fries leaves me warm and satisfied as I polish them off one by one.

However, as good as McDonald’s French fries are when they’re fresh out of the fryer, they’re not at all tasty when they get cold and limp. And, unfortunately, that long trip from the drive-through to home allows them to lose all of their hot, crispy goodness.

Luckily, you can reheat McDonald’s French fries and return them to their crispy state of deliciousness. Want to know the secret? Keep reading!

Can You Reheat McDonald’s Fries?

You can reheat most frozen or refrigerated foods; however, what’s most important is if the food will retain its quality or whether you can restore it to its original taste. Additionally, it’s vital to do some research to check whether reheating the food is safe or if it’ll be edible.

Can You Reheat McDonald's French Fries

There are various ways you can reheat your McDonald’s fries; however, some are likely to work better than others. The general rule of thumb is to heat deep-fried and breaded foods in an air-frier or oven and grilled or baked foods in a grill or oven.

Should You Reheat McDonald’s Fries?

Yes. You can reheat your McDonald’s fries; however, it is essential to follow proper food safety guidelines when reheating foods to ensure that they are cooked to a safe internal temperature. Remember that some foods could pose various health risks if not reheated properly.

You should research whether you can reheat your McDonald’s Fries on reputable websites like the USDA food safety inspection service for tips on properly reheating your food.

How to Reheat McDonald’s Fries in the Oven

An oven is a good place to start when it comes to reheating french fries. It isn’t my preferred method, though, because it takes about 20 minutes from beginning to end. To reheat McDonald’s Fries in an oven, follow these steps:

  1. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Spread the fries in a single layer on the baking sheet.
  3. Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake the fries for 8-12 minutes. Or wait until they are crispy and heated.
  4. Remove the fries from the oven and season them with salt or other desired seasonings.
  5. Serve the fries hot.

Remember that the baking time may vary depending on how many fries you reheat and your oven’s temperature. It is a good idea to check on the fries periodically to ensure they don’t burn. Flip the fries halfway through the baking time to ensure they heat evenly.

How to Reheat McDonald’s Fries in the Microwave

A microwave is a possible option, for reheating fries, but getting them to a crispy state is touch. Again, not my preferred method, but if it’s all you have in a pinch at least it will warm them up.

To reheat McDonald’s Fries in the microwave, follow these steps:

  1. Place the fries in a single layer on a microwave-safe plate.
  2. Heat the fries in the microwave on high power for 30-45 seconds or until they are heated and crispy.
  3. Remove the fries from the microwave and season them with salt or other desired seasonings.
  4. Serve the fries hot.

Remember the reheating time may vary depending on the amount of fries you are reheating and the power of your microwave. Check on the fries periodically to ensure they don’t overcook. You may flip the fries over halfway through reheating to ensure you reheat them evenly.

It is important to note that microwaves can cause food to lose some of its texture and quality when it is reheated. As a result, the fries may not be as crispy as they were when originally served. To achieve the best possible texture and flavor, reheat the fries in the oven or on the stove.

How to Reheat McDonald’s Fries in an Air Fryer

NOW we’re talking. If you own an air fryer, this is definitely the method to follow when it comes to reheating McDonald’s french fries. A short go in the air fryer will bring these fries (and any french fries) back to their golden, crispy, hot goodness.

Follow these steps when reheating McDonald’s fries in an air fryer:

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Put the fries in an air fryer basket in one layer, making sure not to put too many in the basket.
  3. Cook the fries for about 3 to 5 minutes. Or wait until they are crispy and hot. You may need to adjust the cooking time depending on the size of your air fryer and the amount of fries you reheat.
  4. If you prefer softer fries, you can cook them for a shorter time. If you prefer crispier fries, you can cook them longer.

It’s important to note that the fries’ quality may differ from when McDonald’s first cooked them. Reheated fries may not be as crispy as fresh fries and may have a slightly softer texture. However, the air fryer can help to give them a crispy exterior and warm them up quickly.

How to Reheat McDonald’s Fries on a Grill

Yep…that’s right. You CAN reheat french fries on a grill. Why would you? Maybe you have leftovers and are grilling some burgers and want the McDonald’s fries to accompany your grilled burger.

If that’s the case, follow these steps when reheating McDonald’s fries on a grill:

  1. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat (around 375-400 degrees Fahrenheit).
  2. Place the fries in a single layer on a sheet of aluminum foil.
  3. Fold the edges of the foil up to create a shallow tray for the fries.
  4. Place the tray of fries on the grill, keeping them away from direct flames.
  5. Grill the fries for about 3-5 minutes. Wait until they are hot and crispy. Adjust the cooking time depending on your grill’s size and the amount of fries you reheat.

How to Reheat McDonald’s Fries in a Toaster Oven

Only second to an air fryer, a toaster oven can help with reheating McDonald’s french fries. Be aware that the air doesn’t move in toaster oven like it does in an air fryer, so you need to shake the pan every minute or so to ensure that they cook evenly. Additionally, if you cook them too long in the toaster oven, they will become hard and crunch…almost like potato chips. Not a bad thing, but a little different.

To reheat McDonald’s fries in a toaster oven, follow these steps:

  1. Preheat the toaster oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Place the fries in a single layer on the baking sheet.
  3. Place the baking sheet with the fries in the toaster oven.
  4. Bake the fries for about 5-7 minutes or wait until they are crispy and hot. You may need to adjust the cooking time depending on the size of your toaster oven and the amount of fries you reheat.

How to Reheat McDonald’s Fries in a Pan on the Stove

I know it sounds strange, but it does work. Essentially, you are just “double frying” the french fries, making frites.

To reheat McDonald’s fries in a pan on the stove, follow these steps:

  1. Heat a little bit of oil in a pan over medium-high heat.
  2. Place your fries in the pan in a single layer.
  3. Cook the fries for about 3 to 5 minutes. Wait until they are crispy. You may need to adjust the cooking time depending on the size of your pan and the amount of fries you are reheating.
  4. If you prefer softer fries, you can cook them for a shorter time. If you prefer crispier fries, you can cook them longer.

To help keep the fries crispy, make sure not to overcrowd the pan and to turn your fries occasionally as they cook. If the pan starts to dry, you can add oil or butter to keep the fries from sticking.
